Lachlan Mansell – Brand Ambassador, Broadcaster, Host, Guest Speaker, Presenter & Winner, Beauty and the Geek 2021
From superhero movies and techy sitcoms through to social media tsars and Forbes global rich list alumni, geeks have been running the world for years. And while there’s no bigger mainstream geek than The Big Bang Theory’s wisecracking physicist Sheldon Cooper, the stereotype is being reinvented by Lachlan Mansell, fan favourite and the ultimate winner of Channel 9’s seventh season of the smash-hit lovable social experiment Beauty & the Geek 2021. In fact, “Lachy” is geek chic – a fashionable lexeme that’s even muscled its way into the dictionary. No longer a moniker for social misfits, it’s become a mainstream label with increasingly positive connotations. So much so it’s boosted Lachlan’s belief in himself to successfully partner with a number of high-profile brands and feature in a wide range of consumer campaigns (including a stint as an underwear model!). Proudly wearing his geekery like a badge of honour, Lachlan’s got the best of both worlds. That is, backed by academic awards and scholarships, he’s an encyclopaedic brainiac with a photographic memory fuelled by wide-ranging obsessions such as science, sports, supercars and birdwatching (that’s an ornithologist in geek-speak!).
But not all geeks are book worms with a passion for trivia! You see, Lachlan’s also a motorsports aficionado (he even heads up his own media and PR consultancy, rep’ing for big-name racing drivers, teams and track events) as well as an enterprising radio producer and on-air talent. His ‘gift of the gab’ has certainly served him well, commentating at some of Australia’s highest-profile motorsport championship events, including the Bathurst 1000, through to his gig with Sydney’s #1 syndicated breakfast radio show KIIS 106.5’s Kyle & Jackie ‘O’ Show, reaching a daily audience of 1.2 million listeners for over 12 months after coming off the show! With the KIIS experience, Lachy’s dream of having his own radio show has now been a dream come true with Lachy now hosting his own show on Power FM Ballarat weekdays from 10am to 2pm.
Lachlan’s humility is only outshone by his enthusiasm to excel at everything he does, particularly his philanthropic pursuits. For example, he established Commentating for a Cause in which he forgoes payment for his broadcast services, instead donating his fee to a selected charity of choice while encouraging motorsports fans to also show their support. In the meantime, it’s all still about forming relationships for Lachlan. That means creating a partnership with your business as a brand ambassador, broadcaster, guest speaker or presenter…while he continues his quest to find a meaningful relationship for himself (and finally move out of the friend zone for good!).
