LIZ COURTNEY

Global Climate Ambassador, Award-Winning International Film Director, Author and Motivational Speaker on Climate Behavioural Change.

LIZ COURTNEY Global Climate Ambassador, Award-Winning International Film Director, Author and Motivational Speaker on Climate Behavioural Change.

Liz Courtney is a trailblazer in environmental storytelling and a fearless advocate for our planet. A globally recognised documentary director, she has spent the last two decades illuminating the human face of climate change through the power of film. With over 55 internationally acclaimed documentaries to her name, Liz is celebrated for her bold storytelling, pioneering spirit, and unwavering commitment to driving global awareness and action—often from the front lines of our changing climate.

Her journey began with a sliding door moment—an unexpected opportunity to direct a documentary about 40 teenagers on a United Nations expedition to Antarctica. That experience sparked a lifelong mission to give voice to the planet and its people. From the melting ice sheets of Greenland to the burning forests of the Amazon, Liz has brought the world’s most urgent stories into homes across the globe, often under extreme conditions. She made history with the first live broadcast from Antarctica via Starlink, and her work has inspired millions through platforms like the UNCCC, COP28, and international broadcasters.

But Liz’s success hasn’t come without challenges. From navigating a male-dominated industry, getting lost in the Amazon, and breaking sea ice under her sled, to leading climate storytelling on the world stage—every step has tested her resolve. It’s her resilience, purpose-driven creativity, and deep connection to future generations that continue to fuel her fire.

An inductee into the Australian Businesswomen’s Hall of Fame, named one of the ‘100 Women of Influence’ in Australia, and awarded the 2024 Global Gold Award for Women Changing the World in Media, Liz is also the founder of The Unboxed Media Group and co-creator of the groundbreaking Youth4Planet program in Europe. Her latest works—including Antarctica: The Giant Awakens, Climate Impact Asia, Changing Oceans, and The Tipping Points of Climate Change—aim to ignite a global movement for hope, courage, and transformation.

As a mother, Liz has juggled school runs and sports schedules with international film shoots, dogsledding expeditions to the North Pole, a month in the Amazon rainforest, and even being rescued from a permafrost bog in Alaska’s far north. She lives her truth with compassion and conviction, empowering others to find their voice, take action, and believe in the possibility of change. Through film, storytelling, and social impact innovation, Liz is shaping a future where humanity lives in balance with nature—one story at a time.

In 2023 Liz director the Youth Media Hub at COP28 Dubai, in 2024 she co-authored the book Women Living Fearlessly, launched in Times Square, and 2025 curated Climate Week Sydney.

Liz is a sought-after speaker and host, with an extensive record of plenary engagements. She has launched major events, delivered keynote addresses at UNCCC, Climate Week Sydney, New York, and Impact X in Asia, using her voice to connect, inspire, and catalyse global change with a focus on Climate Behavioural Change – what we can all do

OVERVIEW

This book is for anyone who has ever felt afraid to try something new. Whether that be exploring new lands, embracing public speaking or following their dreams!

Sometimes fear wants us to lock up our talent and potential and keep it hidden away from anyone and everyone in a misguided attempt at keeping us safe.

Holding us back from sharing our voice, holding us back from sharing our ideas, holding us back from making new friends, exploring new lands, trying new career paths even following our dreams.

Holding us back and holding us back and holding us back, again and again, over and over in big and small ways, every day.

But what if we stopped letting that happen, What if we demanded that our fear stay small and silent and hidden instead? What if we believed in ourselves and our radiance and our brilliance and our magic? What if we stood up to fear, stepped over fear, silenced fear and then went ahead and followed our dreams anyway?

This book is a collection of inspiring stories from women around the world who have done just that! They’ve embraced the courage to silence their fear and are not afraid to realise their potential, follow their dreams and create a positive impact in the world.
