Mark’s 16-year career with the Australian Military and six-year career with Australian Special forces has taken him to the most remote of places overseas. As a Troop Commander in charge of 30 elite soldiers, Mark’s role was to lead combat missions deep behind enemy lines. At the end of his career, he had completed 10 tours of duty to Afghanistan, Iraq, East Timor, Lebanon and the Solomon Islands. Mark’s successful recovery and growth led him to embark on a high-profile career in business. He studied with the Wharton School of Business – before joining the elite consulting firm McKinsey & Company in New York City. Mark was listed in Wharton’s prestigious 40 under 40 awards for business excellence.
In 2017, Mark was a fan-favourite contestant on Australian Survivor, where he met his former partner, professional endurance athlete, social entrepreneur and motivational speaker Samantha Gash – a partnership that spanned five years of marriage before life took them in different directions.
In 2020, Mark and Sam featured together in the first season of Bear Gryll’s 10-part Amazon Prime series, The World’s Toughest Race – a 700km extreme adventure race in Fiji over 11 days. In 2022, Mark took out the top prize as Sole Survivor in the Australian series of Survivor – Blood v Water where he also competed against Sam. The jury voted a clean sweep of 10/10 votes for Mark which says a lot about his character, social game, challenges and loyalty to his alliance.
Today Mark is the founder of a tough-luxury ecommerce brand called Kill Kapture, and now works as a corporate speaker training thousands of clients each year in Australia and the U.S.A. Mark is also an author, having released his memoir ‘Survivor’ in 2021 followed up with his first fiction novel ‘Outrider’ in 2024. He also made his feature film debut in Mad Max: Furiosa having been cast into an acting role as Hefty Brakeman working in scenes with the lead actors and which had been his life-long dream since he was a boy.
